The Pre-K Program is designed for children who either missed the kindergarten cut-off date or it is for children who would benefit from another year learning Kindergarten readiness skills.

The focus of the Pre-K/ 5 year old curriculum is to meet the needs of each individual learner as Kindergarten readiness skills are developed. Through a hands on approach using developmentally appropriate practices, the children will learn literacy and math skills as well as science and social studies concepts. Children will practice letter and number formations as well as writing their name. Each month will feature a new theme. Stories, music, and art will be woven through the thematic units. The children will engage in a mix of teacher directed small and large group instruction as well as the opportunity for independent work.

Play remains an important aspect of the Pre-K experience. Each day children will have the opportunity to play with their classmates. There will be a rich variety of props and materials to support creative, open ended play experiences. Social and emotional development is often learned best through this kind of play. The teachers will support the children in learning to play together, negotiate conflicts, and solve problems.

Children should be turning 5 by October 1st.
